Sustainability – Sustainability and environmental protection in companies

Sustainability

Sustainable offices for the future of work

Sustainability is not a fleeting trend for us, but rather the principle behind green offices and modern day-to-day life in general. Sustainable solutions are now being sought in more and more areas of life. But what about the place where we spend most of our waking hours of the day, our place of work? Sustainability and environmental protection have long been limited to our private lives, but they are now entering our professional world – in the form of the environmentally friendly office.

What does that look like? Sustainable office furniture made from recycled materials of standard furnishings. A working atmosphere that makes our work easier and doesn’t hinder us. A soundscape that enables concentration and interaction in equal measure. Sound good? Then let’s talk! We can develop tailor-made and holistic concepts for your sustainable office.

Turning waste into new furniture

For us, a core element of sustainability in the office is the circular economy. We contribute to this through our own actions and those of our carefully selected partners.

Fabrics

Waste fabric no longer usable? Straight into the trash? That doesn’t have to be the case! Waste textiles such as old clothing can be reused in their entirety. See for yourself!

Steel

Used steel can be melted down and processed into items such as new table frames. See what happens to them at the end of their service life!

PET bottles

Old PET bottles can be turned into high-quality felt for chairs, tables, and many more products. The best part? PET felt is easy to recycle, so nothing goes to waste!

Hemp

A real pioneer! Renewable hemp can be turned into a 100% organic stool with an infinite service life, because the hemp seat shells are not thrown away when replaced. Instead, they are shredded and processed into new seat shells – without any drop in quality!

Circular economy at BK

A key step on the path to greater sustainability in companies is the transition to the principle of the circular economy. In the “disposable economy” we’ve been using up to now, products are manufactured and largely discarded after their useful life, meaning they are not reused and waste is incinerated or sent to landfill.

We want to change that! By avoiding and reusing waste and recycling it effectively, we create a cycle, from production to the use of a product, in which only a small proportion of new resources need to be added. This means that in an ideal world, an office chair would be made from waste (e.g. PET bottles) or renewable materials (e.g. hemp). Once it has reached the end of its useful life, its individual parts can be processed into new elements in just a few production steps without the addition of further materials. These elements ultimately result in a new chair of equal quality, and so the cycle continues. Through this cradle-to-cradle principle, the chair gets a new life over and over.

What sounds simple in this example is highly complex in practice, especially when it comes to planning entire offices. As experts in sustainable office fit-outs, we are here to help.
